to be eligible for the award you will:

be legally resident in the uk, have been granted leave to remain in the uk and do not qualify for funding from student finance england; or

have been granted discretionary leave to remain (dlr) or some other form of temporary status as a result of an asylum or human rights application; or

are an asylum seeker or the partner / dependant of an asylum seeker

have received an offer of a conditional or unconditional place on a full time undergraduate degree programme at the university of sussex, excluding courses at brighton and sussex medical school

have not already obtained a degree or degree equivalent qualification from another institution

have not met the eligibility criteria for funding from student finance england

have a household income of less than £42,875

remain on the programme for which the scholarship is offered

excellence scholarships (2017)

the sussex excellence scholarship is a merit-based award recognising, and rewarding, undergraduate students who achieved excellent academic performance before joining the university.

the sussex excellence scholarship is worth £3,000 in year one of a three or four year undergraduate degree:

£1,000 cash award and £2,000 rent reduction if you are living in university-managed accommodation *

or

£3,000 cash award if you are not living in university-managed accommodation *

* please note abacus house is not university managed.

if your qualification is listed below and you achieve the minimum grades listed you will be automatically awarded the sussex excellence scholarship. there is no separate application form.

if you are taking other qualification, and are achieving outstanding results, you can apply for one of 10 additional scholarships. selection will be based on academic merit. the successful students will be taking qualifications equivalent to british a levels and be achieving very high grades (ie. it is expected that those awarded the scholarship will be achieving results within approximately the top 10% of results for that qualification.

past recipients of these bonus scholarships have been taking qualifications like the access to he diploma, the polish świadectwo dojrzałości (certificate of maturity) and the malaysian unified examination certificate
