people can go to shop, bank and work with computer. but the danger of the computer is people are getting isolated and losing some social skills. to what extent do you agree with this opinion?

the progression of computer is inevitable and undeniable. nowadays computers also have become a part of our daily life. instead of leaving home to go to shop bank and work people can do these at home by clicking the buttons. however, some people hold the opinion that it will cause people isolated from each other and lose social skills。

personally i find it hard for me to agree with this opinion by following reasons。

in the first instance, computers are tool to communication with people instead of isolation from the world. when we say a person is isolated it means that he is lonely and cut off the world. however, people seldom have this feeling while they are surfing the internet. on the contrary, people tend to make more friends through the net

secondly, people also can acquire social skills on internet. communication on internet has the same purpose as face-to-face communication has. for example, through internet we can send greeting cards to our friends. furthermore, sometimes it might be a better way of communication on some occasions such as when you find it embarrassing to say sorry face to face we can send a message of apology to your friend。

last but not least, doing something through internet actually spares more time for our social life. sometime we need to spend a lot of time shopping in department stores. now we can save the time and may visit our friends。

in general, computer just make our life more colorful so we dont need to worry about the changes its may bring to us. especially most of these changes are positive.

some people said the government shouldnt put money on building theaters and sports stadiums; they should spend more money on medical care and education. agree or not agree?

nowadays, many people argue against the government putting money on building theaters and sports stadiums. they have claimed that medical care and education would benefit the citizens and the country much more.

however, i believe it is worth building more theaters and arenas.

first, stadiums and arenas provide ideal places for people to have physical exercises and entertainment. after a whole week’s hardworking, people can enjoy a wonderful football game in the weekend, and refresh themselves with a good relaxation there. moreover, the physical exercises are good for people’s health, which will ease the pressure of medical care.

second, theaters and museums can be used as base areas of culture and history education. the british museum, which is the largest one in the world, provides visitors with knowledge about the world culture and the arts. the visitors to the museum are all overwhelmed by the magnificence of the cultural and historical displays featuring mankind’s achievements. in addition, the performances shown in the theaters will also greatly enrich the lives of citizens. people can enjoy ballet, symphony, and peking opera in a theater, which contain the soul of chinese and western cultures.

third, running theaters and stadiums can earn much this amount of money can do great contribution in other fields, including medical care, and education. after winning the olympic 2008,beijing made a plan to spend 160 billion rmb building an olympic village. this will surely attract many sports fans to china, which would be much rewarded, not only in economy but the whole society.

you can tell form my commentary above, since building theaters and stadiums benefit not only individuals but also the state, it is very worthy of these the government should speed up the pace of the constructions.

describe a book that you liked in your childhood.

you should say:

* what was this book

* how you got the book

* what the book told you

and explain why you liked the book as a child.

model response: i think i was a great reader during my childhood, and there were so many books in which i was deeply engrossed. but my favorite one was a novel called great expectations by charles dickens, one of the greatest novelists of the 19th century. i got it as a birthday gift from my uncle george. he didn’t say anything about the book when he handed it to me, but after the first reading i thought i got his meaning. uncle george wanted me to become a person with unshakable inner strength just like pip, the protagonist of the novel, who was able to fight against his ill fate with fortitude and perseverance and finally achieve a lot of success in a society that was prejudiced against people like him. as a child, i liked this classic novel for a number of reasons. first, i was quite impressed by the vivid descriptions of many interesting characters and their interactions. i mean that charles dickens was really a master of the english language; you can form a mental picture of what is going on in the novel. second, the plot is full of twists and turns, always making me eager to find out what will happen next. and finally, i think pip has become a hero for many young children like me. whenever i felt down, i would open this book and find an inspiring chapter to read. in that way, i was recharged and empowered so that i could get myself back on feet.

other people feel that it is important to rest the mind during leisure time.

you should write at least 250 words.

you should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

it is generally accepted that we all need leisure time to recover from the stresses of work and everyday , i prefer to be active during this time, as i think this suits me better. however, what we do with our leisure time is up to us and no one can say that any particular activity is the best.

some people relax by watching movies, reading or surfing the internet. people who have physically demanding jobs may choose these types of activities. if you are a nurse or builder, you may feel that you dont want to do a five-kilometre run after work, because you are already physically tired.

other people do very sedentary jobs. computer analysts, for example, may spend all day sitting in front of a computer screen. at the end of the working day, they may be keen to stretch their limbs and improve their health by swimming or going to the gym.

another factor that influences our choice of leisure pursuit is whe...

4. how long have you lived in your hometown?

i come from shenyang. my parents have been living here for the past thirty years or so. i grew up here and i attended a well-known school called school number 163. we live in a respectable area with many shops, restaurants, and a variety of other businesses. the people in our building are generally friendly and quite, which makes it a pleasure to live there.

5. where do you live?

i live with my parents here in shenyang at the moment. to be more exact,we live in an apartment building in one of the northern suburbs of the city. i have my own room and enjoy the privacy that it brings, but i am looking forward to the day that i can have my own apartment. allow me to explain:they are good parents, and i love them very much, but i would like to be more independent soon.

6. where do you live?

well, that is not so easy to answer. please allow me to explain. during the week i live in a dormitory at the university, but over weekends i live with my parents in a village about one hour by car from shenyang. so i really do not know which of the two to call my home at the moment.

7. can you tell me something about your hometown?

yes, certainly. shenyang is in the northeast part of china, and the capital of the liaoning province. it has about seven million inhabitants. it has many heavy industries such as automobile, aircraft, and machine tool manufacturers. in addition,it is rich in history. for example, the japanese invaded the city and committed many atrocities(that is to say many crimes)during the occupation. this is still remembered by many of the elderly folks to this day. another example that i could mention is the imperial palace that belonged to the last dynasty - the qing dynasty- in china.

on arbor day, particular attention is drawn to the part trees play in our lives. its not just a day to plant trees and then forget the gesture for another twelve months.

planting a tree one day is no credit to us if, during the rest of the year, we neglect to care for it and those already growing. our thought on arbor day should be an expression of enduring feeling, thought and action and not just one single, isolated flame of interest.

in schools and other community groups, this day can be celebrated in many different ways.

by planting trees or shrubs in school grounds, along neighbouring streets or in civic parks.

by adopting a patch of bush, with the landowners consent, and caring for it by removal of weeds, rubbish, etc, by preparing firebreaks and by fencing and making paths to reduce trampling.

by presenting a play or mime about trees in the history of australia.

by completing a project about certain types of trees (eg. jarrah, boab, karri) or a famous tree like the gloucester tree near pemberton.

as a class activity or common interest group go on a visit to a bush area with a spokesperson to explain the characteristics of plant species and their niche in the natural environment.

collect some tree seeds, germinate them in a classroom, and plant out the seedling.

carry out identification of trees in a specific part of your school or neighbourhood. a tree labelling ceremony could also be arranged.

compile a list of everyday objects that are made of wood or wood-based materials, and find out how the wood was processed, where it came from and whatever else you can.

trees and shrubs, whether native or introduced to wa, provide opportunities for the interest and study by the whole community, and when we walk around our own neighbourhood or drive through the countryside, we can appreciate the importance of such a diversity of plants to the well being of humanity.

write about the following topic:

is freedom of speech necessary in a free society?

model answer:

in the last decade, there has been considerable debate over the role of free speech in a free society. some object to absolute freedom of speech. others advocate free speech, arguing that the freedom of speech is the single most important political right of citizens in a civilized society. whilst i believe that there are strong arguments on both sides, i would suggest that freedom of speech should be protected in all but extreme circumstances.

the freedom of speech is important at all levels in a society. yet it is most important for the governments. a government which does not know what the people feel and think is in a dangerous position. this is how the communist regimes of eastern europe were toppled in the 1980s. the same is happening again in other regions of the world today. the governments that muzzle free speech run a risk of pushing their people to behave destructively or to rebel.

furthermore, without free speech no political action is possible and no resistance to injustice and oppression is possible. without free speech elections would have no meaning at all. policies of contestants become known to the public and become responsive to public opinion only by virtue of free speech. between elections the freely expressed opinions of citizens help restrain oppressive rule. without this freedom it is futile to expect political freedom or consequently economic freedom.

in conclusion, i believe that the importance of free speech as a basic and valuable characteristic of a free society cannot be underestimated. it may be challenging for society to allow differences of opinion out into the open; however, the consequences of restricting free speech are likely to be more damaging in the longer term.
